Dr. N. Ramakrishnan, Founder & Managing Director, is American Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine & Sleep Medicine & also has a Master’s degree in Medical Management from University of Southern California. He is a Fellow of American College of Physicians (FACP), American College of Chest Physicians (FCCM), American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM) and Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (FISCCM). He has been practicing Critical Care Medicine for about 18 years and Sleep Medicine for over 13 years and is currently Senior Consultant in Critical Care & Sleep Medicine and Director, Critical Care Services for Apollo Group of Hospitals, which is the first and largest corporate hospital in India. He is the brain behind Utopian Healthcare Private Limited, a registered healthcare company since 2003, which prides itself in starting Nithra Institute of Sleep Sciences which is the first-of-its-kind freestanding comprehensive center in India for diagnosis & management of sleep disorders. He is also the Managing Director of Chennai Critical-Care Consultants Group (CCCG) the first group practice of Intensivists established in 2003 which provides clinical and consultative services for several hospitals in India and overseas.
Dr. Ramakrishnan is a member of several professional societies and holds a position in the Executive Committee of Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine. He is a respected teacher and clinician and has been an Honorary Professor at Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute, Chennai (A Harvard affiliated institution). He is also President of the Indian Sleep Disorders Association (ISDA) and Vice- President & Educational Coordinator of Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM). He is an Adjunct Professor at Tamilnadu MGR Medical University & Apollo Hospital Education & Research Foundation (AHERF) and has several original publications to his credit. He is also an invited speaker in national & international conferences of professional societies. He has won several prestigious awards including ‘Best Doctor Award’ from Tamilnadu Medical University & ‘Young Achiever Award’ from Vaishnav Group of Institutions.
Dr. Ramakrishnan returned to India after working in the UK & US for over 13 years with a goal of making a difference to healthcare in India. He has several ‘firsts’ to his credit including establishment of the first private group practice model in Critical Care (Chennai Critical Care Consultants), first simulation based healthcare training center (TACT Academy for Clinical Training), first free standing comprehensive sleep center (Nithra Institute of Sleep Sciences).
Dr. Ramakrishnan is the Medical Director of AICU Chennai Monitoring Center and was instrumental in creating the first ever remote monitoring center for critical care outside the United States providing care to critically ill patients separated by several continents. The center has been successfully providing care since 2010.
